Water heater leakage - most common reasons

Just like maintaining every other system in our house – the first step to deal with Water heater leaks is obviously, figuring out where did the leakage come from in the first place.

here are some common reasons for Water heater leakage:

  • Old, out of date Water Tank – Same as any other household appliance, water heater tanks do wear out over time, and as they age they tend to be less and less efficient. Because of this, older water tanks are much more likely to cause many issues in the heater system, including lower water retention and leaks. Generally speaking, rust buildup causes internal corrosion, which causes leakage in the water tank.
  • High Pressure – water heaters naturally create pressure, as its main purpose is obviously to increase the water’s temperature. However, it is very important to consider that too much pressure can cause many problems, like leakage. if there is excess pressure towards the unit, it won’t escape properly, and as a result – the water would start to leak through cracks.
  • Damaged & Cracked Storage Tank – many water heaters have a third glass tank, that usually is designed mainly for minerals buildup. Although, it’s important to keep in mind that those minerals may harden over time, which could cause cracks in the glass – and cracks usually cause water leaks.

Innovative Solutions for Water Heater Leaks in Your Home

The next step is to know different ways and methods you could use in order to fix the Water Heater leak in your home.

Although, when it comes to our home appliance systems – we always would rather use the most advanced and effective methods.

Here are some examples of innovative solutions for Water heater leakage:

  • Smart water system – smart water systems include sensors, valves and different operating functions in order to monitor and control our house water stream. Usually, those kind of systems would be great in identifying leakage automatically, which helps tremendously not only with fixing the issue, but also with identifying it early before it gets worse.
  • Pipe maintenance robots – those robots can be life savers when it comes to maintaining our system. They can maneuver pretty efficiently within our water pipes, and they can identify issues and even fix them from the inside.

Preventative Maintenance: Avoiding Water Heater Mishaps

It’s extremely effective and valuable to know what are the best methods when it comes to fixing water heater leakage.

However, most of the time – it would be much easier to maintain our appliance system with a preventative maintenance approach. Here are some examples:

Preventive Maintenance MethodDescription
Professional InspectionAnyone could fix a water leak, but there are very few people who could do it effectively. That’s why it’s recommended to work with a professional, experienced company in that field. Annual inspections also help tremendously with certainty – ensuring that there are no further issues after the initial problem is resolved. Different heater experts could identify deterioration before an expensive emergency may outbreak.
Sediment FlushingIt’s very important to clear out corrosive sediments as part of maintenance. Corrosive sediments can damage the water tank, and even degrade it, which is why it’s crucial to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Check Your ValvesTo ensure proper water flow, it’s necessary to check everything related to the system, including valves and sensors.

Guy is the Best!! He called me back within minutes and was at my house working on my Williams wall heater within a half an hour. He has 15+ years experience so it didn't take him long to diagnose the problem. Turns out the previous installer did not seal the vent properly and whenever the wind would get blustery it would blow out the pilot. Also the igniter and thermocouple needed to be replaced. He fixed everything fast and had my house feeling nice and cozy once again. He didn't charge me for a part he had in his truck either. I am very pleased with Guy's work and great personality. The Price was perfect too. Thanks Guy!!!!

This team is absolutely incredible and some of the most professional workers in the area. They did a thorough cleaning of our ducts two years ago and when a recent home inspection said our ducts were "dirty" they were quick to resend a crew member to reinspect and clean if necessary. Not only did they take pictures to prove the cleanliness and are providing a post report, I am able to prove the home inspector wrong and essentially use Seattle Air as our home inspector to protect us against the buyers trying to look for money and gouge us for money.
